Carters Entertainment is run by Joby Carter from Carters Steam Fair, the world's largest vintage travelling funfair. Joby grew up on the fair, and now travels it during the season with his family. In the winter months he works at the Yard near Maidenhead signwriting, decorating and restoring equipment, both for Carters and for private customers.
Joby was trained in the traditional skill of signwriting and fairground art by master craftsman Stan Wilkinson who himself had learnt from a long pedigree of signwriters. Signwriting is a dying art, but it is unequalled in style and quality by anything the modern world has tried to replace it with. Joby is very keen to keep the art alive, and runs signwriting courses and fairground painting courses for those who would like to learn the skill. For more information on the courses, click here.
Carters Entertainment also owns a number of fairground rides and attractions that are available to hire for special events, film and promotional work, including the Grand Palace of Entertainment, the world's only vintage style travelling theatre.
